DR. JANA TRAN, PHD
Dr. Jana Tran is a licensed psychologist who earned a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Houston. She first worked with combat Veterans at the Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center, specializing in evidence-based treatments for PTSD, including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and CBT for Insomnia and Nightmares. Next, as a staff psychologist at the Houston Fire Department, she responded to critical incidents and provided therapy to first responders, developing an additional specialization in couples therapy. Most recently, she worked at NASA conducting astronaut trainings and mission support.
Dr. Tran is now in full-time private practice, where she integrates her specialties and offers trauma-focused couples therapy. Rather than treating trauma and couples work as separate endeavors, she provides a unified space for exploring how each person's trauma history and learned coping patterns contribute to conflict and disconnection.
Dr. Tran grounds her work in Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C), which involves actively mapping the cycle of conflict, or the pattern of reactions that lead to escalation, so that both partners can see the dynamic clearly and begin to step outside of it. She also draws on other frameworks, such as the Gottman Method, to help couples build concrete skills for de-escalating conflict and engaging in productive repair conversations. Throughout this work, couples develop a shared language and a clearer path toward rebuilding emotional safety.
With her background in PTSD treatment, Dr. Tran helps couples identify trauma triggers and protective responses and connect them to their conflict cycle. Couples often discover how one partner's wounds directly activate the other's. She incorporates approaches such as Somatic Experiencing and Parts Work (or Internal Family Systems) to help partners navigate these raw spots, regulate their nervous systems, and begin to recognize and respond to each other with compassion. As that recognition deepens, so does the connection.
Dr. Tran developed a deep respect and appreciation for operational populations through her years of direct service alongside them. She is passionate about continuing to serve these communities and is committed to the lifelong endeavor of cultural humility. She meets clients with curiosity and an understanding of cultural values such as mission over self, the stigma around help-seeking, and the ways that operational stress can shape both the individual and the relationship at home.
Dr. Tran is licensed in Texas and has the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) in all states except Alaska, California, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and New Mexico.
ALANA TREVINO, LISW-S
I am a mental health clinician dedicated to empowering my clients to break free from the limitations of their own minds. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from Bowling Green State University and my Master of Social Work from the University of Toledo.
I specialize in working with current and former first responders and their family members, providing tailored support to address the unique challenges they face. With my husband having served as a police officer for seven years and now working as a probation officer, I bring a personal understanding of the complexities and stresses associated with these professions. I am also committed to ongoing professional growth and cultural competency by building connections with local police and fire departments in Northwest Ohio.
I understand what it’s like to send a loved one out the door with a “be safe” and I recognize the impact of the job on the first responder, whether it’s due to a specific call you keep replaying, or the cumulative effects of burnout wreaking havoc on your mind and body.
My person-centered, trauma-informed approach emphasizes empowerment, helping individuals uncover their internal strengths and resources while equipping them with practical skills for emotional regulation, clarity, and connection. I utilize evidence-based practices, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and incorporate techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Polyvagal Theory. Additionally, I am trained in the Collaborative Assessment for the Management of Suicidality (CAMS). Through a combination of these interventions, I work with my clients to achieve their goals and help them return to living fully.
If you're ready to invest in yourself, if you're sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, then I applaud your bravery in taking this first step. I welcome your stress, your anger, your dark humor, and I can't wait for you to see your potential.
